ALEKS: (online Math program) Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces is a Web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system. ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn't know in a course. ALEKS then instructs the student on the topics she is most ready to learn. As a student works through a course, ALEKS periodically reassesses the student to ensure that topics learned are also retained. (Overview from the ALEKS website.)

Google Forms: With Google Forms, we are able to create assessments for students to complete or questionnaires for others to complete in order to gain information. For our Seasons Around the World project, we shared a Google Form created by our students with classrooms / people around the world in order to learn about their Fall Season and how it compares to ours here in Ohio. Please visit our Seasons Around the World page to learn more about this project and the countries we received responses from.

Twitter: Our class Twitter account has allowed us to learn and share information with classrooms from around the world. Twitter allowed us to reach out to some of our 440 followers and share our Seasons Around the World Google Form with them. Last year, we were also able to participate in Mystery Skypes with classes from other states.

Google Docs: Google Docs allows students to collaborate with one another on the same document. Since this program is cloud based, students are able to view and edit their docs from anywhere on any device that can connect to the Internet. Currently, students are using Google Sheets, the spreadsheet version of Google Docs, to record their daily observations for their Food Coloring Experiments.

Mystery Skypes: (video conferencing) Last Spring, we were able to schedule three Mystery Skypes with classes in Iowa, Minnesota, and Hawaii. For each of these calls, students participated in a 'geography game' in which each class took turns asking questions of the other class in order to determine their location. These activities were unscripted and required students to assess and problem solve using the information they were receiving from the other classes.
